Every year, the Michoes Medical Centre team travels beyond the hospital walls—into distant hills, rural villages, and underserved communities—bringing hope where it is needed most. Our Orthopaedic Outreach Camp has become a lifeline for patients who silently endure pain because specialised care feels out of reach.
But for 67-year-old Mr. Lubega, this camp became the turning point he had prayed for.
A Life Limited by Pain
For over a decade, Lubega lived with severe knee arthritis. Farming became a struggle. Walking was agony. His family watched as the man who once worked tirelessly from dawn to dusk gradually withdrew from the life he loved.
Specialized orthopaedic treatment seemed impossible—until the Michoes camp arrived in his village.
A Team with a Mission
The orthopaedic team—surgeons, physiotherapists, nurses, and volunteers—set up assessments under the shade of a tree, medical tents buzzing with determination. Patients lined up from sunrise.
When Lubega’s turn came, our orthopaedic surgeon gently examined him and delivered the words that brought tears to his eyes:
“You’re not too old to walk without pain again.
We can help you.”
Surgery, Support, and Second Chances
Lubega was transported to Michoes Medical Centre, where he underwent a successful knee replacement procedure supported by donations from international partners. Rehabilitation was slow but steady. Nurses encouraged him through each difficult movement, celebrating every small victory.
Weeks later, he took his first confident steps—no cane, no grimace, just a steady, grateful stride.
A Life Reclaimed
Today, Lubega is back on his farm, tending his crops and enjoying time with grandchildren who once pushed his wheelchair.
He often says,
“The camp didn’t just treat my knee. It brought back my life.”
